Minibus Hire Across Germany

Coach and Driver Hire in Frankfurt am Main

Frankfurt keeps its coach stops short. Most central places give fifteen minutes to set down or pick up, and nearly all are paid by phone. Decide where the coach waits before you plan the walk.

The zone inside the motorway ring

The Umweltzone covers everything inside the A5, A3 and A661; the motorways themselves are outside. A green sticker is required for every vehicle, foreign ones included, and coaches get no general exemption. No diesel ban has ever taken effect.

Useful for fair groups: Tor West and Tor Nord at the Messe, and the Rebstock car park, can be reached from the A5 without a sticker.

Römerberg, cathedral and riverbank

For the Römerberg and the Goethe-Haus, the set-down point is Berliner Straße by the Paulskirche. The cathedral has its own stop, Am Pfarrturm. Both allow 15 minutes at most. None of the coach places can be reserved.

For a longer wait, Theodor-Stern-Kai in Sachsenhausen holds 22 coaches with no time limit, near the Museumsufer. The free coach park at Breitenbachbrücke in Bockenheim is open at all hours and suits a Messe day.

Coach rules in Frankfurt that change the plan

  • Flughafen Frankfurt (FRA) is about 13 km by road from Römerberg, about 15-20 min in light traffic. Journeys take longer at peak times.
  • At Frankfurt Airport (FRA) the airport recommends coach parking P36 directly beside Terminal 1, reached from the A3, A5 or B43 by following the signs to Terminal 1 and then the Hugo-Eckener-Ring. Parking there is limited to 3 hours (longer stays are tolerated for vehicles over 2.10 m high) and cannot be reserved. At Terminal 3 coaches may stop briefly in the charter bus lane P62 to set down and pick up passengers and luggage (A5 exit CargoCity Süd / Terminal 3, then the Terminal 3 car park; the lane entrance is on the right at the start of the car park). The SkyLine people mover links Terminal 1 with Terminal 3.
  • Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport opened on 23 April 2026 and the airlines that used Terminal 2 have moved there, so check which terminal a group's flight uses before planning the pick-up.
  • Frankfurt has an Umweltzone covering the area inside the motorway ring: the A5 in the west, the A3 in the south and the A661 in the east and north (the motorways themselves are outside). Since 1 January 2012 only vehicles with a green sticker (grüne Plakette) may enter. The rule covers cars and commercial vehicles of every drive type, and vehicles registered abroad need the sticker too; there is no general exemption for coaches. The Messe Frankfurt gates Tor West and Tor Nord and the Rebstock car park can be reached from the A5 without a sticker. A diesel driving ban was threatened after a 2018 court ruling, but it never took effect: the Land air quality plan only allows one if nitrogen dioxide limits are exceeded again, and the limits are now being met. These rules are current in October 2026; check them before travel.
  • The city's traffic portal mainziel.de (Straßenverkehrsamt) lists the official coach places. In the centre most are short stops of at most 15 minutes for setting down and picking up: Berliner Straße / Paulskirche for the Römerberg and Altstadt (6 places), Am Pfarrturm by the Kaiserdom (3), Mainkai / Eiserner Steg (2), Untermainanlage (3), Wilhelm-Leuschner-Straße 40 (2), Konrad-Adenauer-Straße (1), Wiesenhüttenplatz near the Hauptbahnhof (3 places at two points), Hamburger Allee 14 near the Messe (2), Dürerstraße / Städel Museum (2) and Untermainkai / Nizza-Werft (1, maximum 10 minutes).
  • Most coach places in Frankfurt, even the 15-minute stops, are paid by mobile phone parking (Handyparken); only a few are free. Coach parking cannot be reserved.
  • For longer coach parking there are two official places: Theodor-Stern-Kai 1 in Sachsenhausen, near the Museumsufer (22 places, no time limit, reserved for coaches from 08:00 to 20:00, paid by mobile phone), and the free Busparkplatz Breitenbachbrücke on Breitenbachstraße in Bockenheim, north-west of the Messe (35 places, no time limit, open around the clock). Coaches can also park for up to 3 hours at Zeppelinallee (Palmengarten), Alfred-Brehm-Platz (Zoo) and the NordWestZentrum.
  • At Deutsche Bank Park, coaches (over 3.5 t or more than 9 people) park on the Parkplatz PC (Gleisdreieck); a coach parking ticket (Gleisdreieck - BUS) must be booked in advance in the stadium's parking PreBooking. Overnight stays on the stadium car parks are not allowed. Event tickets usually include the RMV KombiTicket for local transport.
  • Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof: the main station and a terminus, the busiest station in Hesse, with ICE and IC trains from all over Germany and neighbouring countries; a long-distance bus terminal is at the station.
  • Frankfurt (Main) Flughafen Fernbahnhof: the long-distance station at Terminal 1, served mostly by ICE trains on the Köln-Rhein/Main high-speed line.
  • Frankfurt (Main) Süd: a through station in Sachsenhausen with some long-distance trains, regional trains, S-Bahn and U-Bahn.
  • Works at the Hauptbahnhof (B-Ebene modernisation, renewal of the pedestrian tunnel floor from 28 September 2026 to about the end of 2026, a new track bridge) are inside the station and change walking routes to the platforms; allow extra time when meeting groups off trains.
  • Buses and coaches (Kraftomnibusse) are exempt from the German toll on motorways and federal roads, which applies only to goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes; the A3, A5, A66 and A661 and the Frankfurter Kreuz are therefore toll-free for coaches, minibuses and cars carrying passengers.
  • On German motorways a coach may drive at up to 100 km/h only if it is registered for that speed (entered in the registration certificate), has seat belts on all seats and a speed limiter set to 100 km/h; otherwise the limit is 80 km/h. The Sunday and public-holiday driving ban (StVO § 30) applies to lorries over 7.5 tonnes, not to coaches.
  • EU drivers' hours rules (Regulation (EC) No 561/2006) apply to coach drivers: at most 9 hours of driving a day (10 hours twice a week), a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours of driving and at least 11 hours of daily rest.

Museums, the tower and apple wine

The Städel is closed on Mondays, and every group registers beforehand. The Goethe-Haus guides groups of up to 25. The Main Tower asks groups to register too, though that is not a fixed slot. Expect airport-style screening; large bags and backpacks stay on the coach. The Kaisersaal opens only when it is not booked for official events, so confirm with the protocol office.

For an evening in the apple-wine taverns of Alt-Sachsenhausen, coaches stop briefly on Dreieichstraße or Walter-Kolb-Straße. The Palmengarten wants eight weeks' notice for a guided tour.

Rhine, Heidelberg and Würzburg

Rüdesheim is about an hour away, Heidelberg about 1 hour 15, the Würzburg Residenz an hour and a half. Cochem on the Moselle and Rothenburg are each about 2 hours 15 one way. A loop that adds a second stop soon reaches the daily driving limit, so plan the return time first.

Questions organisers ask

Where does a coach meet a group at Frankfurt Airport?

The airport recommends coach parking P36 beside Terminal 1, limited to three hours and not bookable. At Terminal 3, lane P62 is only for loading. Check which terminal is on your booking.

Can a coach park at the Deutsche Bank Park?

Yes, on the Gleisdreieck car park, but a coach ticket must be booked in advance. Overnight stays are not allowed.

Is there coach parking at the Messe for visitors?

No visitor coach rules are published, so the operator confirms the stopping point with the venue before the day.

Will works at the Hauptbahnhof slow us down?

Walking routes to the platforms change during works inside the station, so allow extra time when meeting a group off a train.
