Munich Airport coach transfers: terminal coach areas, P53 and the long road in

From the terminals to Marienplatz is about 39 km: the airport sits out by Freising and Erding, north-east of the city. Coaches have their own areas at both terminals, but the group's meeting point belongs in the booking, not in a phone call on landing day.

Coach areas at the terminals, P53 for the wait

Both terminal forecourts have barrier-controlled areas set aside for commercial coaches, so the coach can stand close to Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. A stay there may last up to 48 hours, and the first 10 minutes are free twice a day across the airport. The ordinary kerbside lanes are for dropping off and picking up only.

Longer waits belong at P53, the coach park by the Besucherpark, as the airport requests. On a late flight the coach waits there and moves up to the terminal when the group is nearly through. No group meeting point is published, so the partner operator agrees one with you at booking, and the driver confirms it on the day.

Two terminals and a new pier

Send the terminal for each flight. Non-Schengen flights at Terminal 1 now leave from the new pier, which opened in April 2026. Terminal 2 has its own satellite building. A group landing on two flights at different terminals saves time by meeting in one place before it walks out.

Where the coach meets the group

  • Commercial coaches use barrier-controlled special areas in the forecourts of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 that the airport sets aside for commercial bus traffic. The airport publishes no group meeting point: agree the meeting point and where the coach will wait with the operator when booking. Long-distance coaches use bus stops 21 and 22 at Terminal 2, a few steps from the terminal and about 5-10 minutes on foot from Terminal 1.

Coach parking and waiting

  • For longer waits the airport asks coaches to use coach park P53 at the Besucherpark. A stay in the barrier-controlled coach areas at the terminals is limited to 48 hours, and the first 10 minutes are free twice per calendar day across the airport. The kerbside lanes in front of the terminals are for dropping off and picking up only. The car parks have a maximum entrance height of 2.00 m; Economy Parking North P50 has 26 marked spaces for vehicles over 2.10 m high and up to 8.00 m long, which is too short for a full-size coach.

By road to the city centre

  • about 39 km by road to Marienplatz, in the centre of München, about 40 min in light traffic; longer at peak times

Forty minutes is the good case

In light traffic the road to Marienplatz takes about 40 minutes. At peak times it takes longer. A 09:00 landing does not mean a 10:00 city tour: allow for baggage, the walk and the drive.

Munich's Umweltzone takes in the Mittlerer Ring and everything inside it. Every coach needs the green sticker, whatever its country of registration, and diesels of Euro 4 or older are banned there until further notice. The Altstadt has no coach parking, only 20-minute set-down zones on the Altstadtring. An old-town hotel therefore means a quick set-down and a short walk with the cases.

Straight to the mountains or the castles

Groups heading south can skip the city. Allow roughly 1 h 35 min for the 135 km to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Füssen and the Neuschwanstein castles are about 165 km, around 2 hours. Neuschwanstein tickets are timed and sold only online or at the ticket office in Hohenschwangau village, so buy them before you fly.

After an overnight flight, a castle visit on arrival day is a long shift. The driver may drive at most nine hours a day and must stop for 45 minutes after four and a half. If the plan runs over, it needs a second driver or an overnight stop.

Questions organisers ask

Can we take the S-Bahn instead?

S1 and S8 together run every 10 minutes and take about 40 minutes to the Hauptbahnhof. With big cases or children, the coach is easier. No ICE serves the airport.

Our flight is delayed. Where does the coach go?

To P53 near the Besucherpark, the coach park the airport names for longer waits. Send flight numbers so the coach reaches the terminal area in time for the real landing.

Can we go on to Salzburg?

Salzburg, in Austria, is about 185 km, around 2 hours. Mention it when you ask for a quote, as it is a cross-border trip.
