Cologne Bonn Airport coach transfers: the bus station and the cathedral stop

At Cologne Bonn the group coach uses the airport's bus station, next to Terminal 2. It has clear rules, and most of them bind the driver, not the group. One concerns you: the arrival should be registered a day ahead.

The bus station by Terminal 2

The long-distance bus station, or ZOB, is car park P32, beside Terminal 2, with covered access to the terminal and the railway station. It has 11 bays and its own access road, separate from the main entrance to the terminals. Passengers board and leave only inside the bus station, at the bays.

The airport wants planned arrivals registered a full day, 24 hours, in advance. A coach that has not registered must use bay 10 or 11. Send flight details early so the operator can register the stop properly.

No waiting at the bays

The bus station allows no layovers and no drivers' rest breaks. Engines must be off, and the speed limit is 5 km/h. In practice the coach drives in close to the time the group clears baggage. Staff can name other places for a longer wait.

Where the coach meets the group

  • Coaches use the airport's long-distance bus station (Fernbusterminal or ZOB, car park P32), directly next to Terminal 2, with covered access to the terminal and the railway station. Under its rules any coach company may use it: it has 11 bays, planned arrivals are registered with the airport at least 24 hours ahead, and coaches that have not registered go to bay 10 or 11. Passengers may only get on and off inside the bus station, at the bays. The bus station has its own access road, separate from the central entrance to Terminals 1 and 2. The airport publishes no waiting area for cars with driver; people meeting arrivals are told to park in the car park nearest the terminal (P1 for Terminal 1, P2 for Terminal 2) and agree a meeting point.

Coach parking and waiting

  • Layovers and drivers' rest breaks are not allowed at the bus station (staff can name other places), engines must not idle, and the speed limit is 5 km/h; coaches with trailers use bays 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. Charges apply per stay. The terminal forecourt is barrier-controlled, with the ticket linked to the number plate; the Kiss & Fly lane, reached in the direction of Departures, can be used free for 10 minutes once a day. Car parks P2 and P3 have a 1.95 m height limit; taller vehicles can use Parkplatz Nord or P1.

By road to the city centre

  • about 16 km by road to the Kölner Dom, about 20 min in light traffic; longer at peak times

Into Köln: sticker and set-down

The Kölner Dom is about 16 km, roughly 20 minutes in light traffic. Almost all of Köln is an Umweltzone, and coaches need the green sticker, foreign ones too.

Coaches do not set down at the Dom. The city's central coach stop is on Gereonstraße, with a 15-minute limit and the engine switched off. It can close for events, as it does in the 2026 Christmas-market weeks, so the operator confirms the stop for your date. The Dom now charges a sightseeing ticket, and guided groups book well ahead.

Bonn, Düsseldorf and the train

Bonn's Markt is about 24 km, around 25 minutes. Düsseldorf is about 55 km, about 45 minutes. The ICE station sits close to both terminals and is reached from the bus station under cover. If some of the group carry on by train, they can walk straight to the platforms. Check the current rail service first.

Questions organisers ask

Can the coach meet us at the terminal entrance?

No. Group passengers board at the bus station bays only. It sits beside Terminal 2; from Terminal 1, allow a few more minutes.

What happens if the coach is not registered?

It may still use bay 10 or 11. Registering 24 hours ahead is the normal route and avoids surprises on the day.

Is there a waiting area for a car with driver?

None is published. People meeting arrivals are asked to park in the car park nearest the terminal, P1 for Terminal 1 or P2 for Terminal 2, and agree a meeting point.
