Agreeing where the coach stops

Nothing is published for coaches here: no pick-up point, no parking area, no group meeting point. The usual pattern: the group gathers in the arrivals hall, then walks out together to the forecourt where the vehicle stands. The exact stopping place is something to settle with the partner operator before you travel.

The Kiss & Fly zone gives 8 free minutes, timed by number plate, and is laid out for cars. Car-park entrances are 2.10 m high; for taller vehicles, or anything over 5 m long, the airport wants to hear from the driver first. Keep the coach's stop short: have the group ready before it pulls up.

Departure hall 1 or 2

For the flight home, check which departure hall the airline uses. Both halls are in the same building, so a wrong guess costs minutes rather than an hour. Put the hall on the booking all the same.

Where the coach meets the group

• The airport does not publish a coach pick-up point, a coach park, a group meeting point or a waiting area for cars with driver. Groups are usually met in the arrivals hall and walk to the vehicle on the terminal forecourt; agree the meeting point and the stopping place with the operator when booking.

Coach parking and waiting

• No coach rules are published. The Kiss & Fly zone on the terminal forecourt, which begins after the entrance to car park P2, allows a stay of up to 8 minutes free of charge, timed by number-plate recognition from entry to exit; charges apply after that. All multi-storey car parks have a maximum entrance height of 2.10 m, and drivers of vehicles over 2.10 m high or over 5 m long are asked to contact the airport's parking team.

By road to the city centre

• about 8 km by road to the Hauptmarkt, in the centre of Nürnberg, about 15 min in light traffic; longer at peak times

Into the old town

The drive to the Hauptmarkt takes about 15 minutes in light traffic. Nürnberg has no Umweltzone, so no sticker is needed. Coaches cannot enter the Altstadt, however. Only passengers with reduced mobility can be set down inside, at Augustinerstraße, with a slot permit. Some railway underpasses are low, so the operator plans the route.

Trade-fair groups bound for NürnbergMesse can also go by rail: change from U2 to U1 at the Hauptbahnhof, around 20 minutes for the whole trip. With exhibition boxes, the coach is simpler.

Day trips from the airport

Rothenburg ob der Tauber: 82 km, roughly 1 h 20 min. Regensburg: 111 km, around 1 h 15 min. Bamberg: 59 km, close to 50 minutes. Each makes a sensible first day after a morning landing, with time left for a guided walk before the hotel.

Is the U-Bahn an option?

U2 links the terminal forecourt with the Hauptbahnhof in about 12 minutes. Only alternate U2 trains continue to the airport, so check the timetable. ICE trains stop at the Hauptbahnhof, not at the airport.

Where can a coach wait at the airport?

No coach parking is published. The operator plans where the coach waits and brings it up when the group is through baggage reclaim.

The market fills the Hauptmarkt in Advent, and the coach drop-off arrangements are set each year. The operator confirms the current plan when you book.
