Coach and Driver for Groups in Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf is compact for a coach. The airport is about 15 minutes from the Altstadt, the Messe sits by the motorway, and two official coach parks lie close to the old town and the Rhine.

Where the sticker is needed

The Umweltzone covers a large part of the city on both banks of the Rhine. Only vehicles with a green sticker may enter, German or foreign, and coaches are not exempt. There are no diesel bans.

The approach roads to the Messe and airport car parks lie outside the zone: the A44, Am Staad and Rotterdamer Straße. A coach without a sticker can still serve the Messe, but not the Altstadt.

Altstadt and the riverfront

Fritz-Roeber-Straße has 17 coach places that normally need no booking. The Rheinterrasse coach park on Robert-Lehr-Ufer is paid and always open, with a 4.00 m entry height and no toilets. Engines go off on every coach place. For the Kunstpalast, coaches set down on Brüderstraße opposite the Rheinterrassen.

K20 and K21 are closed on Mondays and guide up to 20 people per booking. For the Königsallee, the Rheinturm and the MedienHafen no official coach stop exists, so the operator confirms a stopping point nearby.

Coach rules in Düsseldorf that change the plan

  • Flughafen Düsseldorf (DUS) is about 9 km by road from Burgplatz in the Altstadt, about 15 min in light traffic; Flughafen Köln/Bonn (CGN) is about 54 km (about 55 min). Journeys take longer at peak times.
  • At Düsseldorf Airport, coaches setting passengers down use the stopping area for coaches and shuttle buses on the departures level, for at most 30 minutes. Coaches picking passengers up first drive to the registration point (Anmeldepunkt) and report to the coordinator. On both the departures and the arrivals level a marked entry and exit lane, 3.60 m wide, with a high-mounted ticket machine lets larger vehicles drive up to the terminal.
  • Düsseldorf has had an Umweltzone since 15 February 2009; it was enlarged on 1 February 2013 and covers a large part of the city: its boundary runs from Oberkassel and Heerdt on the left bank of the Rhine, over the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke and through Stockum and Rath to the Aaper Wald, Gerresheim and Vennhausen in the east, then along the A46 to Holthausen and back to the Rhine at the Fleher Brücke and the Rheinkniebrücke. Since 1 July 2014 only vehicles with the green sticker (grüne Plakette) may enter. Under the national sticker rules this applies to German and foreign vehicles alike, and coaches are not among the exempt vehicle groups. The roads to the Messe and airport car parks (A44 / Am Staad / Rotterdamer Straße to Messetor 1, and Stockumer Höfe to the A44 Stockum junction) are outside the zone. There are no diesel driving bans and no announced end of the zone. These rules are current in October 2026; check them before travel.
  • Visit Düsseldorf lists two official coach parks near the Altstadt: Fritz-Roeber-Straße with 17 coach places, which can normally be used without booking, and Rheinterrasse / Tonhalle at Robert-Lehr-Ufer 1 (paid, open 24 hours, entry height 4.00 m, no power or toilets). Coaches set down near the Kunstpalast opposite the Rheinterrassen on Brüderstraße, and the Kunstsammlung NRW names coach parking on the Tonhallenufer.
  • During the Christmas market season the coach places must be reserved in advance through the Visit Düsseldorf booking system; drivers set guests down at the public stop on Fritz-Roeber-Straße. In 2024 the city said coaches found without a booked place are sent to Messeparkplatz P2. In early October 2026 the reservation system was being changed and was not yet taking bookings for the 2026 season. Engines must be switched off on all coach places offered.
  • Messe Düsseldorf and the CCD are reached by the A44 (exit 29 Messe/Arena) to the large car parks P1 (11,600 places) and P2 (3,300 places) at Stockumer Höfe, which are cashless; P3, P5 and P6 are at the CCD main entrance. Parking can be booked in advance for many events.
  • Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof: the main station, with ICE and IC trains from Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, Hamburg and Amsterdam, and Eurostar trains from Paris; the long-distance bus station is beside it on Worringer Straße.
  • Düsseldorf Flughafen station: long-distance station at the airport with about 300 trains a day (ICE, IC, EC and regional trains), linked to the terminal by the SkyTrain; S-Bahn S11 runs from the airport terminal to the Hauptbahnhof in about 12 minutes.
  • Since 4 September 2026 the airport terminal also has a Stadtbahn link: U80 runs from the terminal to the Hauptbahnhof, and U81 runs between the terminal and MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA/Messe Nord on trade-fair days.
  • Buses and coaches (Kraftomnibusse) are exempt from the German toll on motorways and federal roads, which applies only to goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes; the A3, A44, A46, A52 and A57 are therefore toll-free for coaches, minibuses and cars carrying passengers.
  • On German motorways a coach may drive at up to 100 km/h only if it is registered for that speed (entered in the registration certificate), has seat belts on all seats and a speed limiter set to 100 km/h; otherwise the limit is 80 km/h. The Sunday and public-holiday driving ban (StVO § 30) applies to lorries over 7.5 tonnes, not to coaches.
  • EU drivers' hours rules (Regulation (EC) No 561/2006) apply to coach drivers: at most 9 hours of driving a day (10 hours twice a week), a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours of driving and at least 11 hours of daily rest.

Messe and arena days

From the A44, exit 29 Messe/Arena leads to car parks P1 and P2, both cashless, with a free shuttle to the entrances. The CCD has P3, P5 and P6 at its main entrance. Coach rules for visitors are not published, so the operator agrees the stop with the venue. The PSD BANK DOME's underground car park has a 1.90 m limit and is no place for a coach.

Christmas markets and Ruhr days

In the Christmas market season, coach places must be reserved through Visit Düsseldorf, and guests are set down on Fritz-Roeber-Straße. The booking system changes, so the operator confirms the year's arrangement. Zeche Zollverein is about 55 minutes away, Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord and the Wuppertal Schwebebahn about 45 each. Amsterdam is over three hours, so a return the same day stretches the drivers' hours.
