Leipzig/Halle Airport coach transfers: forecourt lanes and the Leipzig Umweltzone
Leipzig/Halle Airport sits between the two cities, about 21 km from Leipzig's Markt and 30 km from Halle. It publishes no coach point, so the stopping place is arranged before the group flies.
Lanes 1, 2 and 3
Terminal B's forecourt sits behind barriers. The first two lanes are for contract customers, for example taxis and transfer vehicles; a transfer service gets in by arrangement with the airport's parking management. Everyone else uses lane 3, the Kiss & Fly: around 80 bays, no height restriction, an hour at most.
Commercial operators get no free minutes in lane 3, so a booked vehicle is charged from the moment it enters. That is one more reason to keep the wait short. The partner operator decides which lane suits the vehicle and tells you where to walk.

Rail at the airport
The station lies right under check-in. Trains on S5 and S5X leave half-hourly and reach Leipzig Hauptbahnhof in some 14 minutes, Halle in about 10. An IC calls every two hours, but there is no ICE: travellers on ICE tickets change in Leipzig or Halle. Confirm the timetable of the day before you put a group on a train.
Where the coach meets the group
- The airport does not publish a coach pick-up point or coach park. The barrier-controlled forecourt in front of Terminal B has lanes 1 and 2 for contract customers such as taxis and transfer vehicles; transfer services arrange access through the airport's parking management. Other vehicles collecting passengers use the Kiss & Fly lane (lane 3) or the adjacent short-stay car park P1. Agree the meeting point and the stopping place with the operator when booking.
Coach parking and waiting
- The Kiss & Fly lane (lane 3) in front of Terminal B has about 80 bays, number-plate recognition at the barrier, no height limit and a maximum stay of 60 minutes; private users get 10 minutes free once a day, but the free time does not apply to commercial operators, and a second entry on the same day is charged from the first minute. Car park P1 gives the first 10 minutes free once a day; drop-off car park P11, directly in front of the check-in area, allows up to 3 hours. The multi-storey car park has a 1.90 m height limit.
By road to the city centre
- about 21 km by road to the Markt, in the centre of Leipzig, about 25 min in light traffic; longer at peak times
Leipzig still has its zone
Leipzig's Umweltzone applies all day, every day, and covers most of the city. A coach without the green sticker may not enter, wherever it is registered. The city plans to lift the zone with its next clean-air plan, but for now it is in force.
Expect about 25 minutes to the Markt on clear roads. The Leipziger Messe is in the north of the city near the A14, which helps fair groups. Hotels inside the Promenadenring need a set-down point agreed in advance.
Halle, Dresden and longer tours
Halle (Saale) is about 30 km, around 30 minutes. Dresden's Neumarkt is about 124 km, about 1 h 25 min. Some groups fly into Leipzig, tour Saxony for several days and fly home from Dresden or Berlin. Plan those driving days so none of them breaks the drivers' hours rules: nine hours of driving a day, ten twice a week, and a break after four and a half.
Questions organisers ask
Can the coach use the Kiss & Fly lane?
Lane 3 has no height limit, but its free time does not cover commercial operators and stays are capped at 60 minutes. The operator chooses between lane 3 and the transfer lanes.
How far is Leipzig city centre?
About 21 km by road to the Markt, roughly 25 minutes in light traffic and longer at peak times.
Who arranges access to the transfer lanes?
Transfer services arrange it through the airport's parking management. That sits with the operator, not with you.
