Frankfurt Airport coach transfers: P36, Terminal 3 and the run into town

At Frankfurt a group coach does not wait at the terminal doors. It waits at bus parking P36 beside Terminal 1, or stops briefly in a lane at Terminal 3, and the group walks to it. Build the arrival plan around that walk.

Check the terminal first

Frankfurt now has two passenger terminals. Terminal 3 has been open since April 2026, while Terminal 2 shut to passengers that June for a refurbishment lasting into the mid-2030s. Airlines are still changing buildings, and a further big move is planned for summer 2027. Send us the terminal printed on each booking, checked a few days before the flight, not the one the group used last time.

For Terminal 1 the coach uses P36, entered from Hugo-Eckener-Ring. The walk is about five minutes on marked paths: out through Arrivals C, keep right, follow the P36 signs. For Terminal 3 the coach can use lane P62 at the start of the multi-storey car park, but only to load people and bags. It cannot wait there.

Late flights and split arrivals

P36 is where a coach waits. The normal limit is three hours, and taller vehicles such as coaches may stay longer. Spaces cannot be reserved and the stay is charged. If a flight runs late, the coach waits at P36, never in the Terminal 3 lane.

When half the group lands at Terminal 3 and half at Terminal 1, one meeting point is simpler than two. The free SkyLine train links the terminals: about 8 minutes on board, 10 to 15 minutes door to door. It runs from 04:00 to 23:00, and a shuttle bus covers the night.

Where the coach meets the group

  • The airport's coach park is bus parking P36 at Terminal 1, reached from the A3, the A5 or the B43 by following the signs for Terminal 1 and entering from Hugo-Eckener-Ring; it is a walk of about 5 minutes on marked footpaths to Terminal 1. From Terminal 1, passengers go through Arrivals C, keep right and follow the signs to P36. Passengers arriving at Terminal 3 take the free SkyLine train to Terminal 1 and walk from there. Terminal 3 has a charter bus lane, P62, at the start of its multi-storey car park (entrance on the right), reached from the A5, exit CargoCity Süd / Terminal 3; it is only for passengers to get on and off and for loading and unloading luggage. App-booked private hire cars pick up at Terminal 1 in short-term parking P31 (departures level) and at Terminal 3 in the charter bus lane P62.

Coach parking and waiting

  • Charges apply at P36 and P62, and reservations are generally not possible. P36 allows a stay of up to 3 hours; longer stays are accepted for vehicles taller than 2.10 m. P62 is short-term only and is not for waiting or parking. The drop-off areas directly in front of Terminals 1 and 3 are free twice per calendar day for up to 10 minutes.

By road to the city centre

  • about 13 km by road to the Römerberg, in the centre of Frankfurt am Main, about 15-20 min in light traffic; longer at peak times

Into Frankfurt: sticker and set-down

The Römerberg is about 13 km away, roughly 15 to 20 minutes on a clear road. Allow more in the rush hour. The centre lies inside an Umweltzone bounded by the A5, A3 and A661, and every vehicle needs the green sticker, foreign coaches included. From the A5, the Messe gates Tor West and Tor Nord need no sticker.

In the old town, coaches set down at Berliner Straße / Paulskirche, not on the Römerberg. Stops there are short, so have the group ready with its bags before the coach pulls in.

Straight on to Heidelberg or the Rhine

Heidelberg is about 83 km from Terminal 1, around an hour. Rüdesheim am Rhein is about 54 km, 45 to 50 minutes. After a long-haul landing, check the whole day against drivers' hours: nine hours at the wheel at most, with a pause of 45 minutes once 4.5 hours are driven.

Questions organisers ask

Can the coach collect us outside Terminal 1 arrivals?

No. There is no coach lane in front of Terminal 1, and pick-up parking on that level is limited by building work. Coaches use P36, a short walk away.

Which terminal does our airline use?

Look at the booking. Airlines have moved since Terminal 3 opened and more moves are planned. Terminal 2 is closed to passengers.

Could the group take the train instead?

The Fernbahnhof, served by ICE and IC trains, is a five-minute walk from Terminal 1. Some groups ride the train and book a coach only at the far end.
