Coaches for Bremerhaven Cruise Days

Bremerhaven's cruise terminal on the Columbuskaje is about 68 km from Bremen and about 184 km from Hamburg. Coaches have spaces at the terminal itself, which helps on turnaround days.

At the Columbuskaje

The quay is about 1 km long and takes up to four cruise ships at once. Inside, check-in and waiting space holds about 4,000 people, and boarding bridges lead to the ships. Outside, the terminal operator lists 20 bus spaces, plus a taxi rank and a shuttle.

When several ships share the quay, twenty coach spaces are not many. Keep to the agreed pickup time, and have the group ready with its cases.

Airport transfers and luggage

Bremen Airport is about 72 km, roughly one hour when roads are clear. Hamburg Airport is about 193 km, about 2 h 15 min. Count cases as well as people. A full-size coach carries them underfloor; a minibus with every seat taken has little room left.

Ship to coach: what to plan

  • Bremerhaven is Bremen's cruise port: Bremen's Marktplatz is about 68 km by road (about 55 min in light traffic).
  • Hamburg's Rathausmarkt is about 184 km by road from the terminal (about 2 h in light traffic).
  • The terminal operator lists space for 20 buses, a taxi rank and a shuttle; taxis wait at the terminal.
  • On cruise days a city bus showing 'Kreuzfahrt-Terminal' links the terminal, the Havenwelten and Bremerhaven Hauptbahnhof; it leaves from directly in front of the main station.
  • Direct trains run between Bremen Hauptbahnhof and Bremerhaven Hauptbahnhof (about 35 to 45 minutes, according to the terminal operator).
  • The terminal is about 4.3 km from the city centre; walking from the main station along the Kommodore-Ziegenbein-Promenade takes about 30 minutes.
  • Passenger car park P1 is directly at the terminal; P3, about 500 m away, opens only on ship arrival days.

Airports for this port

Bremen or Hamburg on a port call

Bremen's Marktplatz is about 55 minutes away. The Altstadt lies inside Bremen's Umweltzone, so the coach needs the green sticker. The Bürgerweide by the Hauptbahnhof, outside the zone, is one of the city's coach parks.

Hamburg's Rathausmarkt is about 2 h each way. That is a long day for a port call. Check the all-aboard time before choosing it.

Questions organisers ask

Is there a bus from the station?

On cruise days a city bus marked 'Kreuzfahrt-Terminal' leaves from directly in front of Bremerhaven Hauptbahnhof and runs via the Havenwelten to the terminal. On foot, the Kommodore-Ziegenbein-Promenade route takes about 30 minutes.

Can the group come by train from Bremen?

Yes. Direct trains link Bremen Hauptbahnhof and Bremerhaven Hauptbahnhof in about 35 to 45 minutes. With suitcases, a coach to the terminal door is easier.

Where do private cars park?

P1 sits beside the terminal building. The second car park, P3, is roughly 500 m off and opens only when a ship is arriving.

How far is the terminal from the town centre?

About 4.3 km. A coach covers it in minutes; a group walking with luggage should not try.
