Coach Trips to the Oktoberfest in Munich
The Theresienwiese hosts the 2027 Oktoberfest from 18 September until 3 October. A coach cannot take a group to the festival gate. It goes to one of the city's coach sites, and the group finishes by U-Bahn or on foot.
The rule that shapes the trip
Coaches may not park at the Theresienwiese. They may not set down or pick up in the streets next to the grounds either, and police enforce this. A wide restricted zone (Sperrbereich) surrounds the festival, and there is no visitor parking.
The city names designated coach sites for the festival. For 2026 the list was Tübinger Straße, the Viehhof, Messegelände Riem and Busterminal Fröttmaning. The city has not yet published its 2027 sites, so the year's site is confirmed when you book.

From the coach to the tents
U4 and U5 stop at Theresienwiese, right by the grounds. Goetheplatz, Poccistraße and Schwanthalerhöhe are quieter stations nearby. Walking from the Hauptbahnhof takes around a quarter of an hour.
Schwanthalerstraße west of the Theresienhöhe closes behind vehicle barriers at the busiest times. The opening-weekend parades, by the festival hosts and by traditional costume and shooting clubs, shut streets in the centre.

Munich's low-emission rules
Munich's Umweltzone includes the Mittlerer Ring. A coach needs the green sticker, and diesel vehicles of Euro 4/IV or older may not enter even with one. Busterminal Fröttmaning lies outside the zone, next to the motorway. These rules apply now; check them before travel.
Late nights and the drive home
A day at the Wiesn often runs into the evening. If the group goes home the same night, the drive back counts against the driver's daily driving limit: 9 hours, or 10 on two days a week. Set the departure time from that, not from when the group feels like leaving. Give every passenger the coach site and the meeting time on paper.
Questions organisers ask
Can the coach stop briefly at the grounds to let people off?
No. Setting down beside the Theresienwiese is not allowed during the festival. The coach uses a designated site and the group travels on from there.
How far is Munich Airport from the festival?
Roughly 39 km by road, so allow 40 minutes when traffic is light. S1 and S8 run from the airport to the Hauptbahnhof in about 40 minutes.
When should we book?
As soon as your date is fixed, especially for a weekend. The coach site is confirmed once the city publishes the year's arrangements.
